Duration: 1 hours
Location: Zoom
Event Details:
TTAC is happy to offer a Learning Collaborative for nurses, doulas, home visitors and others who are routinely providing screening for depression and anxiety disorders using the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7. Please join us to explore this essential topic with Dr. Susan Chinitz, Clinical Co-Director of the Training and Technical Assistance Center for the NYC Early Childhood Mental Health Network.
What need will the learning collaborative address?
Screening for depression and anxiety disorders is increasingly conducted in primary care clinics, home visiting programs, and other human services delivery systems. And this is good practice in that standardized screenings have been found to result in significantly greater identification of mental health disorders than does general practitioner impression. Yet, despite their demonstrated value, practitioners charged with administering screenings with their clients sometimes express discomfort. Screenings can feel intrusive, in that they ask questions that seem personal and private. Sometimes, responses to questions asked in the screenings seem Inconsistent with practitioner impressions, or they elicit responses that are either confusing or concerning. There are also questions about the value of screening other important caregivers of young children in addition to the person noted to be the primary caregiver.
This learning collaborative, which will draw on the experience of nurses, doulas, home visitors, and community health workers, will provide a dedicated time and space to support practitioner confidence in this role by providing peer support around administration, interpretation, and feedback to clients. Role playing and other active learning experiences will be incorporated. It will also address practitioners’ personal response to this aspect of their work, including concerns, past experiences, and any problems that have been encountered.
Dr. Chinitz has offered multiple session times to accommodate different schedules.
Please register for as many dates as you choose.
