Foundations of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation: Theoretical Foundations, Principles & Practices that Traverse Territory
When: Monday, September 30 - 9:00 AM
Duration: 7 hours
Location: Kimmel Center for University Life, Washington Square South, New York, NY, USA
Event Details:
Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) is burgeoning nationally and across settings serving families prenatally through early childhood. The practice is spreading because of its extensive applicability and positive impact on indicators of quality care.
Please join us to explore this topic with Kadija Johnston, LCSW.
This two-day training will begin by offering an overview of the conceptual underpinnings of an effective approach to IECMH Consultation. Articulating these foundational essentials will serve as a springboard for an in-depth discussion of the Consultative Stance - the ten elements of clinical comportment that guide us in our work and promote efficacy. Special attention will be paid to identifying ways in which IECMH Consultation can disrupt individual and institutional inequities and encourage transformation.
Material from participants’ consultative practice will be elicited and explored for its relevance to the principles and practices presented.
As a result of attending this two-day workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify three conceptual influences on the practice of Infant/ Early Childhood Mental Health (I/ECMH) Consultation.
- Identify four elements of clinical comportment that promote consultative alliance and IECMHC’s efficacy
- Investigate and practice how to use inquiry as an intervention in ECMH Consultation, with an emphasis on questions that invite exploration of equity, diversity and inclusion.
