Understanding the Basics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

When: Tuesday, January 18 - 12:00 PM

Duration: 1 hours

Location: Zoom

Event Details:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental diagnoses in childhood. Challenges associated with ADHD include difficulty concentrating, controlling impulsive behavior, and overactivity. In addition, children with these experiences may have trouble organizing their thoughts, following instructions, taking turns and getting along with others. This webinar serves as an introduction to the signs and symptoms of ADHD amongst children, as well as the connections between ADHD, trauma, and stress. Participants will learn how to assess these challenges, analyze the best practices for treatment, and leave with recommendations for working with youth and families.

About the Presenter:

Anil Chacko is an Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology and the Director of the Families and Children Experiencing Success (FACES) Lab at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Chacko’s research focuses on the development of engaging, effective, and sustainable prevention, intervention, and service delivery models for youth at-risk for or affected with disruptive behavior disorders (e.g., attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; oppositional defiant disorder; conduct disorder). Recently, through funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he has focused much of his work on improving the efficacy of evidence-based psychosocial interventions and also on improving engagement to these interventions. His work has been largely influenced by his own ongoing clinical work with families and active collaboration with service providers in the community. He was on the faculty at the City University of New York from 2008-2014 prior to joining the faculty at Steinhardt.
