Family Matters: Consumer Centered Family Consultation Model Training to Promote Recovery

When: Tuesday, June 20 - 10:00 AM

Duration: 2 hours

Location: Zoom

Event Details:

Although standards of practice in NYS OMH Mental Health Outpatient Treatment and Rehabilitative Services (MHOTRS) Programs (formerly known as Clinics) for adults reference the importance of actively engaging a person’s family and other significant supports in promoting recovery and treatment outcomes, providers face numerous challenges in integrating such an approach into routine practice. One major challenge is associated with the absence of a guiding framework that is practical and meaningful in light of the day-to-day demands on the workforce.

This training will review the Consumer Centered Family Consultation Model (CCFC), which was developed at the Family Institute for Education, Practice and Research at the University of Rochester over a decade ago. CCFC was developed as a time limited (1-3 sessions), burden reducing, consumer driven, recovery supporting, and highly practical approach. This model engages the consumer in a process designed to assist them in making an informed decision to involve others in support of their recovery, treatment, and other services. The emphasis is on the consumer’s choices and preferences. CCFC promotes collaboration between consumers, one or more members of their social support system, and the service provider.

If your values and service philosophy appreciate the potential role one's social network may play in promoting health and recovery, this training may be right for you. This training is specifically designed for practitioners working with adults in NYS MHOTRS Programs (formerly known as clinics). Interested participants should be willing to apply the model with a consumer and commit to attending a consultation call following the training to discuss their experience.
