The Community Technical Assistance Center of New York (CTAC) is pleased to invite you to our upcoming Strengthening Trauma Awareness and Resiliency Skills (STARS) offering for mental health providers working with children, youth, parents, caregivers, and/or families in New York State. Please read this announcement in its entirety for full details and take note that as you sign up to attend, you will be registered for all sessions. Those who attend all three sessions will receive 9 CEs and a certificate of completion.

STARS provides participants with the opportunity to practice applying the principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) to their work, and to learn practical strategies to support their work with children, youth, and families that have experienced trauma.

STARS provides information and tools to help:

  • Build foundational information about trauma
  • Practice techniques to promote and process conversations about trauma 
  • Provide information and psychoeducation 
  • Implement regulation strategies, including emotional regulation and co-regulation
  • Uphold culturally competent trauma-responsive care
  • Make effective referrals and apply best practices for promoting follow-through on needed services
  • Understand the impact of trauma on providing care and develop self-care plans to prevent fatigue and burnout

Some key details about STARS: 

  • STARS consists of three live virtual sessions. The dates and times of the three sessions are as follows: 
    • March 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST 
    • March 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST
    • March 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST
  • 9 CE's will be offered to eligible participants who attend all three sessions. No partial credit will be offered.**  A certificate of completion is also provided for all who participate in all 3 sessions.
  • STARS is open to anyone working in NYS OMH licensed youth-serving programs and who provides direct services to children, youth, parents, caregivers, and/or families.
  • STARS can be used in early phases of treatment to discuss the impact of trauma and adversity in the lives of the people served. It has not been developed for or intended to be used as trauma treatment.
  • Participants will be asked to complete brief surveys to evaluate the training and their experience.
  • Participants will be given access to STARS: A Guide for Anyone Working with Trauma Survivors, which provides additional information and resources relevant to the topics covered in the live sessions.
