As a YPA, you play an important role because you are viewed as a credible messenger and an example of resilience by the youth you serve. Self-confidence is essential in order for youth to develop into successful adults, as this helps them better relate to peers, perform better academically, and make informed, safer decisions. Join us as we explore the many facets of confidence and how it can be pivotal to your work with young people and as a YPA. In this webinar, we will address the importance of self-confidence, challenges to one's self-confidence, and practical tips to use when working with youth. About the Presenter

Onyx Walker, YPA-C

First generation, Jamaican-American, Queens born & Brooklyn raised. Onyx Walker holds firm to the belief that we are all students at every moment of our lives. He is a peer advocate that has championed for many young people across the state. 10 years of organizing experience at different levels of leadership bolsters his understanding of activating affected populations. He’s advocated with many different communities on a number of city, state and national issues regarding education, homelessness, foster care and mental health. While doing some grass roots organizing with BIPOC young people, he’s had the privilege of working alongside many organizers and advocates at organizations like Alliance for Quality Education and The New York City Youth Action Board. This journey has aided his ability to teach young advocates how to carve successful paths forward for themselves and become pioneers of change. Learning is a collaborative experience and in order to grow you must be an active participant.
