The Environment as Teacher: A Guide to Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation in the Classroom
When: Friday, September 28 - 9:00 AM
Duration: 3 hours
Location: CUNY School of Law, Court Square West, Long Island City, NY, USA
Event Details:
This session is designed as a group learning experience for early childhood mental health consultants who may not have a background in early care and education (birth-to-five). Using ECMH consultants’ knowledge of development, we will delve more deeply into the reasons for widely-agreed upon quality classroom characteristics, with the goal of enabling consultants to further develop their own strengths-based mental health practices and interventions that support both children and teachers across a range of early learning and care settings. The approach of “environment as teacher” will be used to help consultants support teachers to follow children’s leads to create learning experiences that are developmentally and culturally meaningful, while fostering a high quality social-emotionally informed classroom with thoughtful caring program-family partnerships.
