When: Thursday, June 11 - 2:00 PM

Duration: 1 hours 30 minutes

Location: Webex

Event Details:

TTAC is pleased to host an informative webinar on Maternal Depression and Anxiety Disorders by Susan Chinitz, Psy.D. on Thursday, June 11, 2020, 2 - 3:30 pm.

Depression and anxiety disorders are common mental health problems in the adult population, with a somewhat higher prevalence among women.  Mood and anxiety disorders can create significant discomfort and impairment for the affected individual, and they can also adversely impact on parenting, posing developmental risk to the children of affected individuals if prolonged and not addressed.  There are effective treatments for depression and anxiety disorders, and relief from symptoms is possible, extending benefits both to adults and the children in their care.   Fortunately, screening for depression and anxiety is increasingly recommended and implemented in many health delivery systems.

This webinar will provide information on maternal depression and the more common anxiety disorders.

It will cover:

the definition and characteristics of depression and anxiety disorders
the impact of depression and anxiety on mothers and on their infants and young children
the positive response of depression and anxiety disorders to treatment
the importance of screening for maternal depression and anxiety disorders, and
the use of the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 to screen for depression and anxiety
The training will suggest ways to introduce the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 to new mothers, and ways to talk to mothers about the results of the screening.  Time will be allotted to address questions from participants, to share participants’ concerns or experiences using the instruments, and to consider available resources for mothers who have positive screens or otherwise stand to benefit from intervention.
