Family Separation and Other Attachment Disruptions
When: Tuesday, December 18 - 12:30 PM
Duration: 1 hours
Location: WebEx
Event Details:
The separation of young children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border has brought increased attention on the profound impact of attachment disruptions on the developing brains of young children. Much of the discussion has focused on the neuroscience of trauma and attachment, but less information has examined the clinical implications of attachment disruptions and traumatic separations.
This panel discussion will focus on assessing the impact of these disruptions on child and adolescent behavior and outline some of the implications for treatment and interventions. We will discuss differences between attachment disorders and other stress related disorders. Because many immigrant children have yet to be reunited with their parents, it is imperative that providers be better able understand the clinical implications associated with significant disruptions in attachment that have resulted from the traumatic separations of families at the border.
This webinar should also be applicable to any professional working with families and children impacted by similar experiences through voluntary immigration, deportation, parental incarceration, and foster care or adoption.
