Arrest to Reentry: Implications for Social Work Practitioners

When: Wednesday, January 30 - 2:00 PM

Duration: 1 hours 30 minutes

Location: WebEx

Event Details:

Mass incarceration is one of the most pervasive social issues in the United States. The impact of incarceration, both during and after sentencing, has many long lasting effects including anxiety, depression, and trauma. As providers, recognizing trauma’s impact on individuals who were justice involved is critical to service delivery. In this webinar, Dr. Kirk James, Clinical Assistant Professor at the NYU Silver School of Social Work, will provide an overview of mass incarceration, reentry and the challenges individuals face, and implications for clinical practice. Providers will gain an in-depth understanding of trauma and attachment, as well as meaningful clinical engagement strategies that can be implemented immediately to develop stronger and successful partnerships with consumers. The webinar will conclude with a conversation about resilience and the capacity to recover from trauma experiences and hardship.
