CBC NYSHF: Yoga for Insomnia The Natural Path to a Good Night’s Sleep
When: Thursday, October 28 - 2:00 PM
Duration: 1 hours 30 minutes
Location: Zoom Meeting
Event Details:
Deep, nurturing sleep on a nightly basis is essential to good health and mental wellbeing. A comfortable body and a quiet mind are vital to experiencing a good night’s sleep every night. The practices of Integral Yoga can provide these tools in an easeful way that everyone can adopt, and help them avoid the use of sleep medications.
This program will explain why an over-busy mind and tense body make effective sleep so difficult and frustrating. It will show participants how to use simple yoga poses, breathing practices, deep relaxation and meditation to overcome problems with falling and staying asleep. It will encourage people to determine whether any underlying medical problems are interfering with their sleep patterns and to use conventional and/or alternative techniques to explore them. Once these problems are ruled out or are under control, yoga can be an effective tool to make regular, nurturing sleep a reality.
Then the participants will be instructed in selected Hatha yoga poses that open and stretch the entire body, helping to improve circulation and reduce aches and pains. Participants will experience deep relaxation, which promotes shorter and deeper sleep, and learn how to progressively relax their own bodies, breath and mind. Deep breathing will be taught with tips on how to incorporate this breathing into daily life.
Finally, simple meditation techniques will be shared. Participants will come away able to use this information on a regular basis to change their sleep for the better.
